Diet Patch

QUESTION: Have you done any research on the Diet Patch?  Is this an effective form of weight loss?  Please reply ASAP!

ANSWER: Yes I have. And I don't encourage its use. It uses a combination of an herb called fucus, also known as bladderwrack, which is used as a homeopathic remedy for sluggish thyroid in England. It is actually kelp or seaweed. If it is absorbed through the skin, and it does alter thyroid hormone production, there is the potential for irreversible thyroid issues. The patch also contains menthol, which opens up the pores to facilitate absorption, and a number of stimulants including caffeine and ephedrine. If weight is lost, it will be due to appetite suppression which leads to calorie deprivation. Long term this contributes to metabolic slowdown. There is likely also a diuretic effect resulting in a relatively rapid water loss leading people to believe "it's working." I can almost guarantee that as it grows more popular, we will hear of more and more "victims" who suffer both in the short and long term.
